Hey guys,
Having an issue with DHTML events and internationalization and - having found nothing on newsgroups - thought I'd take a random shot here and see if anyone had seen it. The issue is this: on win/ie, with IME (a system that lets you type ideograph characters on western keyboards) enabled, DHTML key events do not get fired initially. However, once a meta-key is pressed (eg. ctrl or alt) key events begin working normally. This is clearly a bug, but I need some way to work around it. I tried firing the event manually with no results. :: argh :: // aaron // aaron@youngpup.net // http://www.youngpup.net |

I was discussing IME systems with Sherman the other day, so I figure I know a bit about those systems. So, a theory: With those systems you can, for instance, type characters in phonetic, and then you get a list of possible characters for the "sound" you just typed. This probably means that the key presses aren't fed to the browser, until the final character is selected. The meta-key overrides this behaviour, thus sending the western characters to the browser.
Of course my theory fails if it doesn't work this way in Firefox. I'll point Sherman to this thread, perhaps he can shed some light on it! - Mark[/url:i8l7pcz1kz] |

well...without actual hands-on testing, hard to say if it's the same problem that mark pointed out that's causing what aaron is experiencing....although it makes sense theoretically...
i'm running win2k chinese edition with ie6, so if u need any international language pc for testing, just let me know ![]() .: a n d[/url:ap0tvgefr7] e[/url:ap0tvgefr7] r s[/url:ap0tvgefr7] :: dzygn vault[/url:ap0tvgefr7] :. |

Sorry just consulted the crew here and no joy.
Felix (Dan Pupius) has done some stuff with screenreaders and keypress events but there was no way of intercepting the events (apparently). -- Regards, Tim Scarfe <tim@developer-x.com> http://www.developer-x.com |
