I have been put in charge of "building" my church website. I have knowledge on HTML and DHTML but it is all self taught. I need help with what I am doing, they are wanting the site to look a lot better than it does but I am limited to what I can do because of the website host's editor. Could someone take a look at it and give me any tips you might have. I am desperate to get this site going and looking better. Thanks! www.tvcc.us.

Sorry, it was because you added a dot after us in the URL. It does work.

The site looks OK to me, if anything I would have used vivid colors for the main pictures (those that are constantly changing). Probably, I would have used a softer, lighter tone for the text background (similar to the yellow on the left picture.

The first thing I would do is to ask them how they think that the site will improve. Do they have any ideas? Or, have they seen anything they like somewhere else? What do they expect? A complete re-design? What colors do they like? What image do they want to give?

Maybe, they can provide you with links to the sites they do like, or the sites that look similar to what they want. This will help you greatly towards what they think "looking better" means.

After you have gathered all the information, then you can do a mockup and see what you will keep on using from the current site and what you will change.

Thank you so much! I went to them this week and there are a couple of sites that they are wanting our site to be mocked after, gave me some great ideas, I am currently working on building a site on my own and presenting that to them instead of using this company.
