I suggest you guys check this out. I think rich 3d environments like this show products like powerpoint up very badly because they are so compelling. Apparently one guy wrote this in about a year using managed direct x and c#. I do wonder though because some of the footage is from around 2002 and there was no managed direct x PIA then. Takes advantage of every possible interface and uses remoting for distributed presentations over any network topology. I can't wait to see Longhorn apps in a few years like this taking advantage of DX, Indigo and Avalon for rich productive environments in the context of any application in use. -- Regards, Tim Scarfe <tim@developer-x.com> http://www.developer-x.com |

I doubt it. You probably need to get them involved in each implementation until Microsoft aquires them and makes it part of the next version of Office (with neat GUI tools)

And was this a job for one of the developers of Ventuz?

That was so awesome.
infinite video sources + all live? The project board was sort of touchscreen so that would look so cool in those product launch parties that companies have. |

Heh.
The funny thing that none of you seem to have picked up on is that this software is not even very clever. The real technology behind this tool is Microsoft DirectX. The innovation with Ventuz is the design and style not the program itself! They are a design house after all. I think a few of us here could recreate (hardcode) some of those 3D scenes with the animation within a few weeks work (assuming we had the 3d models, graphics etc). Having textures with real-time video sources is something you can do out of the box with DX. The real amazing piece of work would be if they had an office like application to allow most people to easily create rich, 3D presentations. No chance! How many of you have played with 3DS Max, Maya or even Q3 Radiant? It's no easy feat. And remember - they are just a design house. It's not their business model. What fascinates me is just how compelling a 3d environment is. All you need to do is start hooking up scenes like this to your business information management systems (that many of us already work on) and watch the money roll in I say! I'm sure I've linked this before, but it's relevant. http://www.plumbdesign.com/products/thinkmap This was the first time I realised how bankable compelling 3d environments were a couple of years ago (we nearly licensed this tool for one of our applications at the time). I think it allows non technical people to visualise your technology with a better mindset. That said, I also have met business users that turn off very quickly when they see stuff like this. -- Regards, Tim Scarfe <tim@developer-x.com> http://www.developer-x.com |
