Hi, I have a off topic question related to microsoft paint with xp.
I was wondering how to make a transparent gif file... I can see you thinking yeah easy just save it in gif format then look in the attribute options and it's there you dummy.. yeah right.. it's not there ...
I used to be able to do it in w2000 but I had office installed and for what I read, (coz it's damn difficult to find something about that subject) office installs some paint package which allows you to do the famous tranparent background.
Is there like a patch or something ? Or someone with an explaination ? a place to ask the question etc..
any help welcome..

Cheers.

ps: I like using paint for basic stuff it's fast and furious...

Don't use MSPaint...? There are enough free and cool graphics utils out there.

why: paint is not intended to do anything remotely advanced; its just a free program microsoft bundles with windows so that young kids can have some fun drawing star fields and smiley faces (or that seems to be what i see it most commonly used for..). as stephen and dan suggest, there are many decent, free graphics programs that are lightweight like paint. gimp is one such program, with many more features than paint can offer.

Well some news in the matter.. the new version I have has the option but it doesn't work despite using exactly the same color for the background..

Chris-> that's precisley the point, it's fast and furious as I said. Kids like me like fast cars which do the job to bring you from A to B in no time (and in one peace). I want to use paint.. I used it before and it used to work. Now I am using xp on another machine and stuff and it doesn't work anymore, is it a crime to want to know why ? It doesn't mean I don't use (or know) about other things, as a matter of fact I usually use Gimp (when I am under linux and photoshop under windows) for more advanced things. I don't care that the program can do amasing stuff with layers if I don't need them...
